Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism is a group of brain Neurodevelopmental disorder that occurs in children by the age of three years. It's known as Autism Spectrum Disorder that its represent the wide level of skills, impairment and symptoms, and the range may vary from mild to severe. ASD is a lifelong developmental disability which remains with a person for his or her whole life due to affects the brain's functions how a person communicates with and relates to others people. ASD is a condition not a disease that the condition of uneven skill development primarily affecting the communication and social abilities of a person, marked by respective & ritualistic behavior. Autism is five times more in common Boys compared to Girls. Autism is going to the third most common development disorder in the world. If we see the prevalence rate of Autism, according to the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC), 1 in 250 Children was 2001 , 166 was 2004, 150 was 2007, 110 was 2009, 88 was 2012 and 68 was 2014. In India the estimated rate is 1 in 110 children and 70 boys as per National Trust of India an autonomous organization of MSJE, Govt. of India.


Scientists don't know the exact causes of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), but research suggests that both genes and environment play important roles.

Signs & Symptoms

Symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) vary from one child to the next, but in general, they fall into three areas:

  1. Social impairment - Most children with ASD have trouble engaging in everyday social interactions and some children with ASD may:
    • Make little eye contact
    • Tend to look and listen less to people in their environment or fail to respond to other people
    • Do not readily seek to share their enjoyment of toys or activities by pointing or showing things to others
    • Respond unusually when others show anger, distress, or affection.
  2. Communication Difficulties
  3. Repetitive and Stereotyped Behaviors - Children with ASD often have repetitive motions or unusual behaviors.

Being a Parenting an autistic child is a challenging task. Identifying symptoms at the earliest may help to some extent. The sign & symptoms of autism can present themselves in a wide variety of combinations from mild to severe. The warning signs can start to appear at any age but generally it is seen within first two years of life mainly

  • No signs of babbling or gesturing by a year.
  • Difficult to form words or phrases by the age of two.
  • Not maintaining eye contact while we talk to them.
  • Hyperactive.
  • Restless.
  • Poor speech or lack of speech.
  • Cannot speak meaningfully.
  • Sudden stop or regression in learning to speak.
  • Echolalia or repeating words
  • Repetitive Behaviors.
  • Fixation or engaging in a singular activity over and over.
  • Sensory processing difficulties with sound, smells, tastes, sights or movement.
  • Lack of socialization.
  • Difficulties to play with peer groups.
  • Inappropriate playing with toys.
  • Inability to relate to others.
  • Difficulties dealing with changes to routine.
  • Lack of awareness of danger.
  • Inappropriate laughing or crying.

HOPE Special School Unit is mainstreaming students, preparing students for Open Base Education systems and training teenagers and adults in different vocational activities to give them positive direction in life. Integrated programs with mainstream schools are organized, so that the special children may achieve their much desired individual self-esteem and ultimately grow into independent citizens.
Our aim is to give direction to their unique talents in their pursuit of education and guide their young minds into fruitful activities.

HOPE Special School Specialty

  • We provide education in a structured way, designed individually for students who have some special needs like challenges with learning, communication challenges, emotional and behavioral disorders, intellectual deficits and developmental disorders.
  • We provide Individualized Education Plan (IEP), addressing specific needs through specially highly Qualified, experienced and trained Special Educators.
  • We kept Student to teacher ratios are kept 8:1 or lower depending upon the needs of the children.
  • One-to-one sessions, group sessions, play, music, dance and art are regularly incorporated in our structured educational curriculum.
  • We also have other facilities for children with special needs, such as play areas, sensory integration rooms, which necessary for treating students with certain conditions.
  • We provide Therapeutic Intervention for the Children with Special Needs as per their needs.
